Democratic 1st District state Rep. Luis Moscoso was honored last week for his efforts to help Washington state immigrants.
The Northwest Immigrants’ Rights Project gave Moscoso its “Golden Door” award Friday, citing two of his efforts in the regular session of the 2013 Legislature.
One was his proposed Washington Voting Rights Act, passed by the House but killed in the Senate, which would have allowed challenges to voting systems that disenfranchise voters.
The other is the Washington State Trust Act, aimed at setting statewide standards on when local jurisdictions could honor immigration detainer requests issued by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The organization presented Moscoso the award Friday at its annual gala.
“I am both honored and humbled to be awarded this meaningful recognition,” said the Mountlake Terrace Democrat, a first generation Peruvian-American. “I firmly believe our state is great due to the diversity of its people, and I will continue working toward equality and opportunity to ensure everybody in Washington has a voice and a chance to fully participate in civic life.”
Moscoso’s 1st Legislative District includes most of Mountlake Terrace, all of Brier and Bothell, north Kirkland, unincorporated areas of King County between Bothell and Kirkland, and unincorporated areas of Snohomish County north and east of Bothell,
