INDEX — The investigation into a fatal hit-and-run crash in Index last summer is awaiting a review by Snohomish County prosecutors.
Police wrapped up the case earlier this year, according to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office. They did not make a recommendation on charges.
The Aug. 4 crash took the life of Stacey Lain Broyles, 47, of Index. It happened late at night along Index-Galena Road, near Fifth Street.
Three days later, an Everett woman, 49, contacted police and identified herself as the driver.
Evidence from the woman’s vehicle was sent to the state crime lab. Laboratory tests results came back late last year verifying that the same vehicle struck Broyles.
Detectives in recent weeks have declined to discuss details of the case pending a prosecutor’s decision on whether the crash involved a potential crime.
