The National Lacrosse League announced on Wednesday that Edmonton’s Kyle Rubisch and Minnesota’s Jordan MacIntosh have been named the league’s Defensive Player of the Year and Transition Player of the Year respectively.
Rubisch recorded 11 points (three goals, eight assists) and ranked first among NLL defensemen with 128 loose balls in the regular season. He also led the league in forced turnovers with 44, breaking his NLL single-season record of 43 that he set in 2012.
Rubisch helped the Rush to a 9-7 record in the regular season before being ousted in the first round of the playoffs by the Washington Stealth.
Stealth defenseman Mike Grimes finished second in the voting and Buffalo’s Steve Priolo and Toronto’s Patrick Merrill finished tied for third.
MacIntosh recorded 55 points (27 goals, 28 assists) in 2013. He ranked second in the league in loose balls with 197 and fourth in faceoffs won with 241. He won Transition Player of the Week six times in the regular season.
Jesse Gamble of Toronto finished second in the voting, while Philadelphia’s Brodie Merrill finished third.
The NLL season awards are determined by a vote of the league’s Board of Governors, general managers and head coaches.
The season awards continue today with the announcement of the Goaltender of the Year.
