CBS nets 50 Daytime Emmy nominations

NEW YORK — The Academy of Television Arts &Sciences on Wednesday announced nominations for the 40th Daytime Emmy Awards, and although the list was dominated by longtime favorites “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” and “Sesame Street,” a few newcomers, including the syndicated “Katie,” also made the cut.

CBS had 50 nominations, the most for any network. Its total was boosted by “The Young and The Restless,” which had more nods — 23 — than any other daytime series. It was nominated alongside “General Hospital,” “The Bold and the Beautiful,” “Days of Our Lives” and “One Life to Live” for outstanding drama series.

“Sesame Street” overcame a year marked by scandal to score 17 nominations, the most for any children’s show. The Hub’s horror series “R.L. Stine’s The Haunting Hour” also fared well, with nine total nominations, including one for outstanding children’s series.

“The Ellen DeGeneres Show” continued its dominance in the daytime talk categories, including a nod for outstanding entertainment talk show.

Heavily publicized newcomer “Katie” scored three nominations, including one for outstanding informative talk show. She’ll compete against “The Doctors” and “Dr. Oz.”

Jim Bell and Ann Curry are among those listed in NBC’s “Today” show nomination for best morning program.

“Today” will compete against its ABC counterpart, “Good Morning America,” which has been thumping “Today” in the ratings, leading to Bell’s departure as exec producer and Curry’s exit as co-anchor/morning TV sweetheart.

“Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek is the sentimental fave in the race for best game-show host (Sony is reported to be mulling who will replace the longtimer).

Trebek’s competing against “Let’s Make a Deal’s” Wayne Brady, “Family Feud’s” Steve Harvey, “Cash Cab’s” Ben Bailey and “Billy on the Street’s” Billy Eichner.

The academy also announced that longtime game show host Monte Hall and producer Bob Stewart will be honored with lifetime achievement awards.

The 40th Daytime Emmy Awards will be held June 14 and broadcast on HLN (formerly CNN’s Headline News) on June 16.
