Herald employee honored by mayor

Kim Heltne, who worked as executive assistant to five publishers at The Daily Herald over 35 years, is retiring from the paper.
Heltne's extensive community involvement on behalf of The Herald led Everett Mayor Ray Stephanson to declare Friday "Kim Heltne Appreciation Day in the city of Everett."
She spearheaded The Herald's participation in the United Way's Day of Caring; organized benefits for the Snohomish County Red Cross and Providence Regional Medical Center Everett, and served on the boards of directors for many community nonprofit organizations.
Heltne also for many years was a member of the newspaper's editorial board.
Her last day at The Herald was Friday.
