Allergies! Obesity! The perils of sugar! No wonder kids only want pasta -- no sauce, no seasonings. Sigh.
Luckily, along comes Lidia Bastianich, Italian-American chef, cookbook author and grandmother of five. In "Nonna's Birthday Surprise" ($16.95), Bastianich helps her grandchildren plan a birthday dinner for their great-grandmother, Nonna Mima.
The book has kid-friendly, seasonal recipes: panna cotta with berries, sausage and bread frittata, potato gnocchi with butter sage sauce and chocolate bread parfait among them.
