Day 1 of Seahawks rookie minicamp: Luke Willson shines, Richard Sherman rides a jetski

Seahawks rookies were on the field for the first day of their minicamp Friday, and one notable veteran was also nearby, watching from the lake.

As practice was getting started, Richard Sherman wrote on Twitter that he was going to ride his jetski over to watch practice.

And apparently he wasn't kidding, because a few minutes later, he was indeed floating on Lake Washington near the practice facility. I'd include a picture, but the blurry image I got on my cell phone is pretty bad.

Anyway, enough about that. As for the draft picks, rookie free agents and tryout players who were actually on the field Friday afternoon, few, if any, stood out more than fifth-round pick Luke Willson, who looked every bit like the athletic tight end the Seahawks were talking about when the drafted him last month. Now granted, he was going against fellow rookies, many of whom won't be in the NFL this year, but still, Willson showed good hands and some serious speed for a 252-pound man.

"He jumped out today," Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said, going on to call Willson's play, "Probably the brightest spot," of the practice.

Also making a good first impression on Carroll were running back Christine Michael, who Carroll called, "very quick, very quick, very sudden," fullback/running back Spencer Ware, and tackle Michael Bowie."

Carroll also said there were plenty of nerves, as expected, and that over the next three days, coaches will be less focused on perfect execution than on judging what kind of competitor a player is.
