Treat your mom to an outing today

Meerkerk Gardens

Instead of giving your mother flowers for Mother’s Day, how about an entire garden?

Mom can enjoy the beautiful rhododendrons at Meerkerk Gardens, 3531 Meerkerk Lane, Greenbank on Whidbey Island, and be serenaded at the “Music &Rhodies” concert from noon to 4 p.m. today. Admission is $10 for adults, free for kids.

The rhodies are in peak bloom at Meerkerk, which encompasses 53 acres of woodland gardens. Bring a picnic lunch and lawn chairs to relax while listening to the music of Harper Tasche, who plays folk harp. For more information, go to www.meerkerkgardens.org.

Storybook Theater

Part of a mother’s job is to teach values to your children. In their musical production of “Rapunzel,” Storybook Theater teaches the values of keeping promises and following directions.

In this tale, a mother-to-be makes a deal and gives birth to a girl she names Rapunzel, who is born with 6 feet of rainbow-colored hair.

Shows are at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. today at the Snohomish County PUD auditorium, 2320 California St., Everett.

Tickets are $10 and will be available 30 minutes before curtain; see www.storybooktheater.org.

The show is best for kids ages 3 and above.

Camano studio tour

Take an island tour with splendid vistas and artists at work around every bend in the road.

The self-guided Camano Island Studio Tour runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today — and continues next weekend — up and down the island with 48 artists participating. Visit 31 studios and three galleries. Maybe you can pick out a gift.

How about a piece of jewelry, a decorative pot, a new painting for the living room or a piece of metal sculpture for the yard?

Think of it as artist hopping instead of island hopping. For more information about the artists and the tour, go to www.camanoarts.org.
