Bothell family hit by tree files claims with state

SEATTLE -- A Bothell family whose car was hit by a falling tree last December at Stevens Pass has filed six claims with the state, saying the Transportation Department should have closed U.S. 2 because of heavy snow bringing down trees.
The Seattle Times reports the claims filed with the attorney general's office could turn into a multimillion dollar lawsuit. State officials said Tuesday it was too soon to comment on the claims.
The Dec. 21 accident instantly killed the parents, 58-year-old Tim Owen and 56-year-old Cheryl Reed Owen; it crushed and severely injured their daughters, 27-year-old Jessica Owen and 25-year-old Jaime Owen-Mayer, and 25-year-old son-in-law Steven Mayer. Their 22-year-old son Jeremy Owen was the only person to walk away.
