The Department of Transportation cancelled a planned closure of the Ebey Slough bridge on Highway 529. The state agency was planning to shut down the bridge over the weekend to put down a final layer of pavement and temporary striping. But the project is dependent on better weather.

Join the Island County Master Gardeners and the Snohomish Conservation District for two rain garden planting events. The first is set for 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. A rain garden will be installed at Terry's Corner-Windermere, 818 Sunrise Blvd., Camano Island.
The installation is part of the 12,000 Rain Gardens Campaign. Another rain garden will be installed 10 a.m. to noon June 8 at Camano Island Dental Center, 810 Rekdal Road.
Educational workshops prior to each planting are sponsored by the Department of Ecology as part of a water-quality grant. Learn more about how a rain garden can work in your yard, then put a few plants in the ground and be part of cleaning up Puget Sound.
