Democratic state Rep. Mary Helen Roberts says that she expects the special session of the Legislature to focus on drunk driving as well as the state budget.
As the vice chairwoman of the House Public Safety Committee, she has been involved in some of the discussions of what the Legislature needs to put into a tougher, and more effective, approach to deterring drunk driving.
The special session could last up to 30 days.
Roberts said that for her the most important accomplishment of the regular session that ended in late April was the passage of a bill that extends foster care for youths who turn 18 until they are 21 as long as they are attempting to overcome barriers to employment.
“This is another step in a process of expanding foster care services that I have been working on over the past several years,” said Roberts, a member of the House committee on early learning and social services.
She also is a member of the House Judiciary Committee and the House Rules Committee.
Roberts represents the 21st Legislative District, including most of Edmonds, north Lynnwood, all of Mukilteo and part of south Everett.
