Associated Press
SPOKANE -- The Air Force could announce as early as Wednesday where it plans to base the next generation of air refueling tankers.
Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane is one of four candidates to receive the new KC-46A tankers, which will be built by Boeing.
The other Air Force bases under consideration are Altus in Oklahoma, McConnell in Kansas and Grand Forks in North Dakota.
The KC-46A will replace the 1950s-era KC-135. It will also be a major boost to the economy of the community that is chosen, with the potential for new construction and new jobs.
