Former Silvertips associate head coach Jay Varady has returned stateside, as he was named the general manager and head coach of the USHL’s Sioux City Musketeers.
Varady was a fixture with the Tips, spending eight seasons with the organization. He was an assistant coach under Kevin Constantine for the first four seasons of the team’s existence, then spent the following four seasons as associate head coach under first John Becanic, then Craig Hartsburg. Following the 2010-11 season he accepted the head coaching position with French professional team Ducs d’Angers, with whom he had two good seasons, compiling a 55-14-6 record. Varady is a veteran of the USHL himself, playing for the Dubuque Fighting Saints from 1995-97.
For those hoping Varady would be a candidate for Everett’s vacant head coaching position, this eliminates him from the mix. Next week is when one should start anticipating the Tips making a hire, as the Memorial Cup concludes Sunday.
