OLYMPIA -- The Grays Harbor County prosecutor says Thurston County SWAT officers were justified in fatally shooting a man during a standoff in March in Hoquiam.
Prosecutor Steward Menefee said Thursday the shooting was self-defense because the suspect refused commands to drop his pistol.
The Olympian reported the Thurston SWAT team was called March 26 toward the end of a 20-hour standoff.
The suspect, known as Rick or Rob Marlowe, had slightly wounded a Hoquiam officer who tried to arrest him on a warrant from Sacramento accusing him of real estate fraud.
Marlowe retreated into the home. He finally appeared in a doorway with the gun and wearing a gas mask as the house started to burn.
Three officers fired 33 shots. Marlowe was hit by 14 or 15 bullets.
