Meadowdale softball wins state opener

LACEY – For the Meadowdale Mavericks, clutch hitting was contagious.

Meadowdale got five runs on five hits in the bottom of the third inning – four runs coming with two outs – which was more than enough for star pitcher Alyssa Reuble as the Mavericks advanced to the quarterfinals of the 3A state tournament with a 6-0 win over Auburn Mountainview Friday afternoon at the Regional Athletic Complex in Lacey.

Meadowdale (21-2 overall) plays Enumclaw (22-3), 5-2 winners over Interlake, in a quarterfinal contest at 4 p.m.

Reuble started the scoring with an RBI single in the third. Rebecca Wright, Julia Reuble and Ciarra Hart each knocked in runs with base hits. Hart finished the game 2-for-3 with two doubles an RBI and a run scored.

Meanwhile on the mound, Reuble – the lone senior on the Meadowdale squad – had another strong outing, allowing no runs and scattering three Auburn Mountainview hits.

The Mavericks haven’t lost to a 3A team all season. Their only two losses are to Wesco 4A’s Snohomish and Cascade.
