PORT ANGELES — The city of Port Angeles has agreed to pay a man $125,000 to settle a claim from last year that police used excessive force in catching him after he fled on a bicycle.
City attorney Bill Bloor told the Peninsula Daily News that the settlement came after a mediation session between city staff and lawyers forBenjamin James Eastman, 25.
Bloor said the city decided the settlement was their best option even though they deny the use of excessive force. But avoiding a lawsuit will save money and time in the future.
