But Meadowdale couldn’t capitalize, falling to the Braves 2-1 Saturday morning at the Regional Athletic Complex in Lacey.
After the first two batters popped out, the Mavericks loaded the bases in the seventh inning, causing Kamiakin to bring in new pitcher Jessica Edminster. Edminster got the next Meadowdale batter to strike out, ending the game and sending the Braves to the 3A state championship.
Meadowdale will play Juanita, 3-2 winners over Shorecrest Saturday morning, at 11 a.m. in a loser-out game. The winner of that game clinches a spot in the third-fourth place game, and will take home a trophy.
The Mavericks struck first when Alyssa Reuble hit an RBI groundout that scored Meadowdale leadoff hitter Tiffany DeWayne.
However, Meadowdale managed just three hits the rest of the way.
Kamiakin, which only had three hits off Reuble in the game, scored one in the top of the third inning on a solo home run by Tawny Becker. The Braves added the eventual game-winning run on a sacrifice fly by Carlie Richards one inning later.
