STANWOOD -- City Hall officials received an application in May for a review of plans to establish a private club in downtown Stanwood.
The man who submitted the application has said that the building he rents on 271st Street NW would be used as a venue for male strip shows.
However, the proponent isn't getting very far with city officials.
He hasn't specified in his application what the private club is all about, he has not applied for a business license, and he didn't obtain a building permit for the renovations he has made to the building or the stage he is constructing. The city issued a stop-work order, Mayor Dianne White said.
"There are many safety issues with this," White said. "For example, there is no second exit."
Community Development Director Rebecca Lind said that until the proponent's application is complete, the city cannot review his plans and cannot determine whether what he wants to do is an allowed use under Stanwood's zoning code.
People who want to be notified when and if the city determines whether or not the club is an allowed use can email or submit a written request to the Stanwood Community Development Department, 10220 270th St. NW, Stanwood WA 98292. Provide your name, address and email address.
