Snohomish County’s surface water experts want your thoughts on how to improve water quality, wildlife habitat, urban drainage and flood protection.
A series of meetings, each from 7 to 9 p.m., hosted by the county’s Surface Water Management Division is scheduled to begin this week. The events are spread geographically around the county and will seek to gauge the public’s needs, expectations and interests:
Wednesday: the Evergreen State Fairgrounds long house, 14405 179the Ave. SE, Monroe.
Thursday: Willis Tucker Park’s Gary Weikel Room, 6705 Puget Park Drive, Snohomish.
June 18: Snohomish County administration building east, room 1F07, 3000 Rockefeller Ave., Everett.
June 25: Arlington Public Works administration building, Stillaguamish Conference Room, 154 W. Cox Ave., Arlington.
June 26: Lynnwood Senior Center, 1900 44th Ave W, Lynnwood.
Problems facing the county’s surface water programs are decreased funding, declining water quality, more intense storms due to climate change, replacing outdated water systems and protecting endangered species.
The Surface Water Management Division’s responsibilities include: responding to neighborhood drainage problems; inspecting drainage systems; monitoring water quality in lakes, rivers and streams; river flooding and erosion; operating a flood-warning system; and habitat projects.
The county also is soliciting feedback through a public survey available at www.survey.surface water.info.
