Republican Robert Reedy and Democrat Terry Ryan are running for the position on the Snohomish County Council that incumbent Democratic Councilman Dave Gossett must give up due to term limits.
The district includes Mountlake Terrace, Brier, Bothell, Mill Creek and nearby unincorporated areas.
The position, like all partisan offices must appear on the August primary ballot, even though both candidates will advance to the November general election as long as each gets at least 1 percent of the primary vote.
Here are introductory statements from the two candidates:
Robert Reedy (Prefers Republican Party)
I have lived in Mountlake Terrace for many years, my family moved here in 1956. This is not the first time this area has fallen on tough times; the question is how are our officeholders going to handle the issues. Rather than special interests ruling our government for their own gain, I propose governance by We the People; and we shall not be subjects of the crown, but customers of the county. This and a lot more coming up. Thank you.
Terry Ryan (Prefers Democratic Party)
As Mill Creek Mayor, I worked hard to create jobs and opportunities for new businesses, balance budgets and create cash surpluses. With this record, I received endorsements from Democrats and Republicans, business leaders and labor groups, outgoing Councilmember Dave Gossett, and mayors and councilmembers district-wide. I am also proudly endorsed by Sheriff Lovick, the Deputy Sheriff’s Association, and Firefighters because I know that great communities start with safe streets and neighborhoods.
Now, I am excited to continue to build a strong economy and safe, livable neighborhoods for all of Snohomish County. I hope I can count on your support!
