The Storm (3-3) have a chance to put together a three-game winning streak and move over the .500 mark for the first time this season.
Going into the season without standouts Sue Bird and Lauren Jackson, who are both out for the season with injuries, head coach Brian Agler knew that in order to be successful the Storm would have to be able to grind out some victories. So far, they have been able to do that.
The defensive effort has given Seattle a chance to win all but one of its games this season. When the offensive effort matches the defense, the Storm are tough to beat. Seattle got its best offensive production of the season in its most recent win, a 96-86 overtime victory over Washington on Tuesday. The 38-year-old Tina Thompson led four Storm players who scored at least 15 points with a season-high 30. It was a throwback game for the only current WNBA player who participated in the league's inaugural season in 1997. Thompson, the WNBA's all-time leading scorer, has announced her retirement effective at the end of the season.
The Storm face a talented San Antonio (2-2) team that has struggled in the early going. The Silver Stars have four players averaging double figures. Shenise Johnson leads the way at 11.5 points per game. As a team, San Antonio averages just 69.7 points per contest. Facing a defense as strong as the Storm's, that number could drop even lower tonight.
The Storm's improved offense might get another chance to shine against the Silver Stars. San Antonio has allowed opponents to shoot 46.3 percent from the floor and score 78.2 points per game this season.
