From Southern-fried to Southern-fired

Dropped like a hot potato, slathered in butter: The Food Network dropped celebrity Southern chef Paula Deen, despite two videotaped apologies she released the same day, admitting to use of the N-word and other racial insensitivities, including considering dressing up black waitstaff like antebellum slaves for a "very Southern" wedding reception.

Pretend slaves for a "very Southern" wedding? Paula, there's "Southern," and then there's "Gone With the Wind."

Going to have to check under the couch cushions for that much cash: A Nigerian tax agency has ordered Mobil Oil to pay $83.4 million in taxes it owes from 2008 that the oil giant thought it was exempt from paying.

It was an honest mistake; the original tax bill came in an email. From Nigeria.

Striped or paisley? A Massachusetts couple who ordered a men's tie and a pocket square from the Gap's Banana Republic website were surprised when they received instead a package containing the personnel files of 20 former Gap employees, including Social Security numbers, doctor's notes and salary information.

Alerted to the inappropriate release of personal information, the National Security Agency immediately went to the Banana Republic website and ordered a tie.
