Where can we find 50,000 tiny bee caskets?

The dream of the '90s is alive in Portland: A Portland woman is organizing a memorial service on Sunday for 50,000 bees that died from the improper application of pesticide in trees in nearby Wilsonville. The woman told The Oregonian she wanted to make the ecological catastrophe seem less abstract.

I guess it's cheaper than paying for 50,000 obituary notices in The Oregonian.

A dollop of insensitivity: Sears and J.C. Penney were the latest to annouce they were severing their ties with celebrity Southern chef Paula Deen over racial slurs revealed in a court deposition. Earlier in the week, Wal-Mart, Target and Home Depot said they were pulling their Deen-branded kitchen items.

It's nothing personal, the corporations assured Deen; some of their best friends have 19th-century attitudes regarding race and slavery.

Peanuts? That'll be $10: Allegiant Air, which could soon offer service from Everett's Paine Field, has racked up 10 years of profitability as other airlines have struggled. Allegiant has made money by flying older aircraft, packaging flights with hotels and other amenities, and by charging additional fees for booking tickets, using overhead bins and paying with a credit card.

Passengers can save a little extra money by volunteering to take a seat in the back of the plane to man one of the oars.
