Matt Koenigs has been named the athletic director at Trinity Lutheran College in Everett, school president John Reed announced Monday.
Koenigs has served the past two years as coach of the Eagles’ cross country and track and field programs.
“We are so happy that Matt is taking on a broader role at Trinity as athletic director,” Reed said in a statement. “He has done excellent work coaching and recruiting for our cross country and track and field programs, and we know he will bring the best dedication and commitment (to) his new position,”
Koenigs began his new job Monday.
Koenigs has coached cross country and track and field at Everett Community College since 2006, turning the Trojans into a regional power. The past two years he coached at Trinity Lutheran and Everett CC simultaneously.
“I will continue to coach the EvCC XC teams, but am exploring changing my role as head track and field coach at EvCC,” he said in an e-mail. “I may be a co-head coach for EvCC Track &Field this coming spring just to facilitate the ease of the transition, but no matter how that sorts out I will absolutely be continuing to coach the EvCC distance runners.”
Miller pitches perfect game
When it comes to throwing a perfect game, a pitcher can’t be any more dominant than Makayla Miller was on June 22.
Pitching in the District I 9-10 All-Star Softball Tournament, Miller struck out all 18 batters she faced to lead South Snohomish to an 8-0 victory over Lake Stevens.
South Snohomish went on to win the district title on Thursday night, defeating Mill Creek 11-0 in the championship game. South Snohomish advanced to the state tournament, which begins July 13 in La Center.
Hansen is top grandma golfer
Andi Hansen of Mukilteo was the low net winner at the 47th annual Washington State Grandmothers Tournament held June 3-4 at Everett Golf &Country Club.
Hansen, a 66-year-old grandmother of four, shot net rounds of 73 and 60 for a 133 total and a one-stroke victory. She topped a field of 116 golfers. Hansen has been playing golf off and on for 30 years, tournament chairperson Pat Bradbury said.
Mustafa wins bronze medal
Mohammad Mustafa of Everett captured a bronze medal at the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation World Championships held May 30-June 2 in Long Beach, Calif.
Mustafa placed third in the Medium Heavy Weight Blue Belt Division. He won his first four matches to reach the semifinals, where he lost to an opponent from Brazil.
Mustafa trains at Elite Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
