After winning their first seven games away from home, the Sox were thoroughly outplayed Tuesday night in Vancouver as the Canadians romped to a 11-1 victory.
Andy Fermin, son of former Mariners shortstop Felix Fermin finished 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI to lead Vancouver's 17-hit attack. Monroe H.S. graduate Ian Parmley also went 3-for-5 with a run scored and two RBI and catcher Michael Reeves had two hits to extend his hitting streak to 11 games.
Overall, six Canadians players had a multi-hit game.
Austin Wilson drove in Everett's only run with a double in the seventh and had two hits.
Canadians starter Jeremy Gabryswski (2-0) needed just 70 pitches to throw six shutout innings and allowed two hits. After Jack Reinheimer's one-out single in the first, the right-hander retired 12 in a row and Everett (15-4) didn't have a runner in scoring position until the fifth.
Sox starter Lars Huijer (2-1) gamely battled through control issues, giving up two runs on six hits in five innings.
Vancouver (11-8) made Huijer pay for his wildness in the third. After two walks, Reeves hit a two-out, RBI single. Justin Atkinson scored the second run on a wild pitch to give Vancouver a 2-0 lead.
After the Canadians extended their lead to 3-0 with a run in the sixth, Everett finally got on the scoreboard in the seventh when Wilson's bloop double down the right-field line scored Justin Seager.
But the Sox bullpen imploded over the final two innings as the Canadians tallied eight runs and nine hits off relievers Min-Sih Chen, Nick Valenza and Ricardo Pereira. Valenza took the brunt of damage. The left-hander surrendered seven hits, seven runs and walked three while recording only two outs.
