A presentation is planned from 1-2 p.m. Tuesday about the "Railroads of the Stillaguamish Valley" at the Arlington City Council Chambers, 110 E. 3rd St.
Eric Erickson, author of numerous books about railroads, lumber mills, logging and maritime history, will share information about the railroads that laid tracks in the Stillaguamish Valley at the turn of the 20th century. These lines transported millions of board feet of timber markets around the world.
The talk is sponsored by the Stillaguamish Valley Genealogical Society.
Edmonds: Join design board
The city of Edmonds is accepting applications for the layman position on the Architectural Design Board, which advises the City Council about proposed multiple-family and commercial developments, including site, landscape and building design.
The volunteer position includes meetings at 7 p.m. the first and third Wednesday of each month. The term is through the end of 2014. The position is open until filled.

Mill Creek: Join review board
The city of Mill Creek is seeking two volunteers to fill vacancies on the Design Review Board, with terms that expire Aug. 31, 2016.
Design Review Board meetings are held at 5:15 p.m. the third Thursday of each month.
The board was created to review and make urban design decisions that will promote visual quality throughout the city. Board members review all site plans, building elevations, landscaping and monument signs for attached single-family residential, multifamily residential, industrial and commercial developments.
Members shall be from the professions of architecture, landscape architecture, urban (design) planner or similar disciplines and need not be residents of the city.

Mountlake Terrace: Have coffee with officials
People from the community are invited to join city officials for a cup of coffee and hear firsthand what's happening in the city.
This casual event is scheduled from 8 to 9 a.m. July 10 at the Recreation Pavilion, 5303 228th St. SW.
People are encouraged to ask questions, give their views about city services or just listen to the conversation.
The informal setting provides citizens an opportunity to get involved, learn more about city government and its services, and hear what's happening in Mountlake Terrace.
