Salmon fishing has reopened in Marine Area 7.

Marine Area 7 (the San Juan Islands) reopened to salmon fishing Monday, and results were pretty good, according to Kevin John at Holiday Sports in Burlington. As is usually the case this time of year, John said, the fish were a mix of sublegals, legal blackmouth and adult chinook to 20 or 25 pounds.
John said the central and south parts of the islands fished better on the opener than the north end. Good spots included areas around Blakely, Cypress and Decatur islands.
John said he and his party had pretty good luck on anchovies in a helmet, behind a flasher, at 60 to 120 feet, and that the early morning hours were prime time.
