Waste Management

Speak up to oppose rate increase

In June, I received a letter from Waste Management requesting yet another rate increase.
This company, quite frankly, does not deserve a rate increase. They offer poor customer service, and remember when they failed to pick up your trash due to a labor strike? They charged you for that day's missed service. Seattle and Federal Way residents unfortunate enough to have this vital service done by Waste Management received $10 credits to their bills. Not we residents of Snohomish County.
I tried (unsuccessfully) to not pay for that missed service and was threatened with being sent to collections!
When WM last asked to increase rates less than 200 residents provided comments to the Washington State Utilities and Transportation Commission, so they must have thought it was OK to allow this huge company to have its way.
Join me in contacting the WUTC at WWW.UTC.WA.GOV or via phone at 1-888-333-WUTC {9882} and tell the commission that enough is enough!
No rate increase until the service improves, If I could, I'd use Rubatino or Allied Waste but it's the state that decides which firm gets the contract.
WM wants the new rates to be effective by July 12, so please call or write today!
It's worth noting that the last rate increase was March of 2009, their stock price has gone from $23.26 on March 9, 2009 to close today at $39.54, and the company has recently announced both dividends and stock buy-backs. I don't think they need more of my money.
