Seems Like Yesterday

50 years ago (1963)

The trombone section of the Everett Junior college summer band would get a workout in the second Concert on Campus. Several marches and bright, brassy numbers were on the program. Trombonists were David Gilliland, Ed Crull, Larry Braden and Dennis Mills.

Kathy Engstrom, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F.W. Engstrom, 6920 Beverly Blvd., was honored with the national torchbearer in social leadership award, the highest honor a member of the Camp Fire Girls organization could receive. She would be a senior at Cascade High School this fall and vice president of the Girls Club.

25 years ago (1988)

Chris Lobaugh hit a three-run homer and pitcher Todd Cort struck out nine as the Everett Merchants defeated the University of Puget Sound 10-2 to remain in first place in the Western International League semi-pro baseball standings. Others contributing to the victory were Rick Soriano, Scott Carpenter and Gary Thompson.

Eastside Tire & Muffler at 1125 Ave. D in Snohomish had sales on all-season radial whitewalls, 10-point brake specials, dual exhaust installations, wheel alignments and oil changes and lubes.
