EUGENE — After being held to a single hit in the series opener on Wednesday, the bats of the Eugene Emeralds came to life Thursday night.
The Emeralds banged out 10 hits, including six doubles, and ended Everett’s four-game winning streak with a 6-3 victory.
Edwin Moreno drove in two runs and Felipe Blanco doubled twice for Eugene (9-18).
Five Eugene pitchers combined to limit the Sox to just four hits and Everett didn’t record a hit after the seventh inning. Michael Kelly (1-1) earned the win in relief of starter Yimmi Brasoban and Adam Cimber picked up his third save.
D.J. Peterson accounted for three of Everett’s four hits. Peterson finished 3-for-4, including a two-run double in the sixth. Michael Faulkner drew three walks and scored twice.
Everet starting pitcher Thyago Viera held the Emeralds scoreless through the first three innings, but Eugene struck for two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to take a 3-0 lead.
Fernando Perez’s RBI groundout drove in Eugene’s first run of the series and Henry Charles added an RBI double later in the fourth.
Blanco doubled to lead off the fifth and scored on Moreno’s sacrifice fly.
Everett finally got on the board in the sixth. Walks to Faulkner and Justin Seager provided Peterson with an opportunity and the Sox third baseman doubled to the right-center gap off reliever Kyle Lloyd to score two.
The Sox briefly leveled the game in the seventh without the benefit of a hit. Faulkner drew a one-out walk after a nine pitch at-bat and then took advantage of a passed ball and two wild pitches to score the tying run.
Eugene responded in the bottom half of the seventh with two runs to take the lead. Moreno singled to center field off Everett reliever Ricardo Pereira (1-2) to score pinch-runner Anthony Torres. Moreno scored the second run after Sox pitcher Aaron Brooks threw a wild pitch with the bases loaded.
The Emeralds scored their final run off a Richard White wild pitch in the eighth.
