Seattle made the expected move official on Thursday morning before closing out its series against the Red Sox. Seattle optioned right-handed reliever Carter Capps to Triple-A Tacoma to clear a roster spot for Ramirez.
Ramirez was expected to be in contention for a spot in Seattle's rotation coming out of spring training before being sidelined by a sore right elbow that kept him on the disabled list for nearly two months. He was 3-3 with a 3.09 ERA during his comeback at Tacoma.
Ramirez appeared in 16 games and made eight starts last season for Seattle and went 1-3 with a 3.36 ERA in 59 innings.
