Former state lawmaker Kip Tokuda dies
KING-TV reported that authorities in Island County say Tokuda suffered a heart attack Saturday while fishing on Whidbey Island. Tokuda represented Seattle's 37th Legislative District in the state House from 1994 to 2002. Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn had recently appointed Tokuda to the Seattle Community Police Commission.
Tokuda was also a founder of the Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Washington and the Asian Pacific Islander Community Leadership Foundation.
Gov. Jay Inslee said in a statement that Tokuda "never wavered in his drive to bring fairness to all members of our society."
He is survived by his wife and two daughters.
