CWU offers online cybersecurity minor

ELLENSBURG -- Central Washington University is offering a new program aimed at meeting the demand for people who can prevent cyberattacks.
The university's new 24-credit minor in cybersecurity will allow students to identify vulnerabilities in information systems, to defend those systems against hackers and other security threats, and to track cybercriminals.
Professor Gary Rogers said it's the first such program offered entirely online in Washington state. He says the program is complementary to other programs at Central, such as law and justice, accounting and computer science.
The university announced the program in a statement Monday, noting that the Bureau of Labor Statistics has reported job opportunities for network systems and information security professionals are expected to grow by 43 percent through 2018.
