Calorie counter

The high cost of eating: When we know how much physical activity we'll need to make up for unhealthful eating, we're likely to make better choices about food, according to new research.

In a somewhat related finding, The Buzz research labs have determined conclusively that absolutely no one will embark on a 30-mile run after scarfing a 14-inch, 3,760-calorie Meat Lover's Pan Pizza at Pizza Hut.

Relax, they're still creme-filled: Twinkies are back -- and apparently smaller than before. The spongy snack food product that recently returned to store shelves is about 4 grams lighter and contains about 15 fewer calories than the previous version.

This means you can cut back by about five minutes on the exercise you won't do after eating a Twinkie.

Silver linings dept.: People who delay retirement have less risk of developing Alzheimer's disease and other types of dementia, a study of nearly half a million people in France found.

This is excellent news for the politicians and corporate honchos who want to raise the full Social Security-Medicare retirement age to 70 -- they can rebrand "entitlement reform" as "Alzheimer's prevention."
