MUKILTEO -- A shooting reported in Mukilteo on Wednesday afternoon was believed to be a suicide.
Police were summoned to the area of the 800 block of Second Street about 12:30 p.m. for reports of gunfire, Mukilteo police officer Cheol Kang said.
Witnesses and officers found a man dead "from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound," Kang said.
Everett police on Wednesday evening confirmed that the man was one of their officers.
The officer had been on leave for several months related to medical issues, a department spokesman said.
No other injuries were reported. The investigation into the shooting continues.
