The good times roll at Kla Ha Ya Days

Kla Ha Ya Days is the annual community festival that the town of Snohomish throws to show the public a good time with a parade, car show, kids’ fair, carnival, fun run and much more.

This year the party’s going to get even tastier as Kla Ha Ya Days will be the site of the Kansas City Barbecue Society sanctioned BBQ competition open to everyone. Prizes total $7,500.

The two-day event, Saturday and Sunday, is a sanctioned qualifying event that will be held in the parking lot of the Snohomish Boys &Girls Club, 402 Second St.

This year, Cabela’s is one of the sponsors and is donating cash and prizes. Competitors will vie in four main categories and the People’s Choice Award.

A Kids Que runs from 10 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Sunday.

You can register and pay fees to enter the barbecue competition online at www.klahayadays.com/events/event/kla-ha-ya-days-bbq-championship/.

“Barbecuing is a time to meet with family and friends, a way to celebrate community,” said competition coordinator Jason Bauer, a Snohomish High School grad, in a prepared statement.

Kla Ha Ya Days isn’t just about barbecue.

There’s plenty going on today, including the Grand Parade, which starts at 10:30 a.m. on First Street from Avenue D to Willow.

Other events throughout the day Friday include the Baby Crawl, the Firefighters Waterball, bed races, an ice cream eating contest and cherry pit and watermelon-seed spitting contests.

There’s also a car show, a street fair, a food court and a beer and wine garden.

And don’t forget the frog-jumping contest.

Kla Ha Ya Days continues through Sunday.

Would you want to give something as elaborate as this a name as mundane as “bread box”? A French Provincial piece practically demands the French name panetiere.

This elaborately carved French antique may be old, but it’s still capable of keeping its leavened contents perfectly fresh.
