Farmworkers from Skagit Co. farm return to work
Rosalina Guillen of the advocacy group Community To Community says the workers returned to work on Tuesday afternoon, with Wednesday being their first full day, after owners of Sakuma Brothers farms met several of the demands.
The demands included reinstating a fired worker, removing a supervisor workers saw as abusing, and better working conditions.
The workers also wanted higher pay. The Sakumas and the workers agreed to a wage of $4 for a box weighing 7 pounds for fields currently being picked. The farm owners also agreed to have worker representatives when they determine wages for fields.
Guillen says the next step is to formalize new agreements on paper.
