AquaSox’s division lead shrinks in 9-2 loss

BOISE, Idaho — The Everett AquaSox can’t celebrate yet.

Everett’s hold on the Northwest League North Division’s first-half title got a little less tight after the Sox fell 9-2 to the Boise Hawks on Friday night.

Everett entered the final series of the first half with a three-game advantage over Vancovuer in the division. But with the Sox dropping the first two games of their five-game set against Boise, and with the Canadians winning their first two against Eugene, that lead has shrunk to one game with three to play. Vancouver holds the tiebreaker and the Sox need a combination of Everett wins or Vancouver losses to clinch the first half and earn a playoff spot.

David Bote homered twice and Cael Brockmeyer went 3-for-4 with three RBI for Boise (19-16), which systematically pulled away from the Sox. The Hawks scored in seven of their eight innings, never scoring more than two runs in a frame.

DJ Peterson went 3-for-4 with a homer to lead the Sox (22-13).

Boise got it rolling in the bottom of the first when Brockmeyer lofted a two-run double off the right-field wall, staking the Hawks to an early 2-0 lead. Boise added another in the second courtesy of Bote’s solo homer to left.

Everett got on the board in the third when Peterson singled home Jack Reinheimer to make it 3-1. But the Hawks got that run back in the fourth with Bote’s sacrifice fly.

The Hawks then broke the game open in the fifth and sixth. Jacob Rogers bounced a two-run single down the first-base line in the fifth, then Bote slugged his second solo homer of the game in the sixth, making it 7-1.

The Sox scored a consolation run in the eighth when Peterson launched his team-leading sixth homer of the season to left.
