That was fortunate as the Boise Hawks (20-17) scored in each of the first four innings to build a 6-0 lead and throughly outplayed Everett in a 7-0 win.
The Sox (23-14) had just three hits to the Hawks' 16. Boise starting pitcher James Pugilese (3-2) needed just 46 pitches to throw five innings and earn the victory.
An Everett injury dampened the mood even more. Sox third baseman D.J. Peterson had to leave the game in the first inning after Rony Rodriguez lined a ball that deflected off the glove and left shoulder of Peterson and rolled all the way across the diamond to second baseman Bryan Brito.
Peterson was taken to a Boise hospital as a precaution. However, the AquaSox said the Seattle Mariners' 2013 first-round draft pick only suffered a contusion, according to a report from the hospital. X-rays on Peterson's left thumb were negative. Peterson's status is day-to-day.
The Rodriguez infield single loaded the bases for the Hawks. Sox starter Tyler Olson then hit Cael Brockmeyer to force home a run and David Bote lifted a sacrifice fly to right field to make the score 2-0.
Boise added two more runs in the second on Shawon Dunston's RBI single and Yasiel Balaguert's RBI double.
Brockmeyer continued the onslaught with a triple off the wall in center field to lead off the third and scored on a base hit from Bote.
An inning later, Bote doubled in his third run of the game for a 6-0 lead.
Dunston capped the scoring with an RBI single in the seventh. The Boise center fielder finished 4-for-5 with two RBI.
Olson (1-3) took the loss, allowing six runs and 10 hits in four innings.
