Plan your week: Sand castles, movies, music, more

Good morning and happy Monday!

It’s summer, which means the days are overloaded with fun. Here in the Northwest, we have to soak up summer in order to make it through the drizzly winter. We care about you, so we want to make sure you get your daily dose of fun and vitamin D. We’ve collected some of the fun things coming up to help you plan your week. This is something new we’re trying. Want to play along? Email items you think would be great for this list.

Beach fun: Jetty Island is open for the summer, every day. You can take a foot ferry over for some fun in the sun. The ferry departs seven days a week, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday; from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday. More.

Sand art: A free sand-sculpting contests for amateurs is at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Edmonds. You can build on your own or as part of a team. Sign up at Marina Beach in Edmonds. More.

Music Sets in the West is from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Wetmore Plaza in Everett. Hot Bodies in Motion and Panama Gold are playing this week. The show is free and there is a beer and wine garden. More. (There’s plenty of other music options in Everett, too. Check it out here.)

Shakespeare: See “The Tempest” performed at Lynndale Park Amphitheater in Lynnwood on Wednesday and Thursday at 7 p.m. Bring snacks and a blanket and you can make a picnic out of it. The shows are free, although a $5 donation is appreciated. More.

For kids: Kids can bring a stuffed animal with them for pajama storytime at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Snohomish Library. Then they can leave their stuffed friend for its own sleepover for the library. On Friday at 10 a.m., kids they can return and pick up their friend and a photo of it having fun in the library, with a frame to decorate. More.

Owl movie: See a free showing of the movie “Hoot” at the Northwest Stream Center Auditorium in Everett at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The movie, based on a kids book, tells the story of kids working to save burrowing owls. The event is free but seating is limited. Reservations are recommended. More.

Globetrotters: Kids can learns hoops skills from some of the best. Two-hour skill clinics are from Thursday to Saturday in Everett. More.

Dig into art: Everett Public Library offers a chance for kids to create artwork at 3 p.m. on Wednesday. The event is at the main branch of the library on Hoyt. For kids 7 and older. Younger kids can participate with a helper. More.

Mill Creek music Hear big band jazz from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Mill Creek Town Center. The show is free. More.

Marysville music Kellee Bradley will perform at the Marysville Summer Concert series at 7 p.m. Thursday. The free show is at Lions Centennial Pavilion in Jennings Memorial Park. More.

For kids: Caspar Babypants, also known as Chris Ballew, the lead singer for the Presidents of the United States of America, will perform at noon Thursday in Everett at Thornton A. Sullivan Park. The show is free. More.

Outdoor movie: See “Brave” for free at Terrace Park in Arlington at 7 p.m. on Thursday. Free popcorn. More.
