Hawks blank AquaSox for 2nd straight game
Everett rang out the first half by falling 10-0 to the Boise Hawks on Monday night.
The Sox had already clinched the North Division's first-half title, and thus a playoff berth. However, Everett ended the first half on a sour note. The Sox lost four of five to the Hawks, including being shut out in the final two games. Everett mustered just three hits Monday as five Boise pitchers combined to face just two batters more than the minimum.
Every Boise batter had at least one hit as the Hawks (21-17) pounded out 15 as a team. Jacob Rogers homered and was one of six Hawks who had two hits.
No Everett batter reached base more than once. The Sox finished the first half 23-15.
Sox starting pitcher Thyago Vieira, who struggled with his control in his last outing, solved that problem as he surrendered no walks and struck out six in four innings. However, he also allowed 10 hits, leading to five runs as he was saddled with the loss.
Boise broke the ice in the bottom of the first. With two out and nobody on, the Hawks strung together three straight hits, with Cael Brockmeyer's RBI single giving Boise a 1-0 lead.
The Hawks kept at it in the second, with RBI singles from Trevor Gretzky and Lance Rymel increasing Boise's lead to 3-0. Then the Hawks received an RBI triple from Jose Dore in the third and a run-scoring single from Daniel Lockhart in the fourth to make it 5-0.
The Hawks then made it secure in the seventh and eighth. In the seventh Rogers slugged a solo homer to right, then Jordan Hankins added an RBI single to right, stretching the lead to 7-0. Then in the eighth the Hawks scored three more, with the aid of two Everett errors, to make the lead double digits.
