The Seahawks signed former Falcons tight end Michael Palmer Tuesday and released rookie defensive back Ray Polk.
Palmer, 25, came into the league as an undrafted rookie in 2010, and in his career has started five games, catching 21 passes for 123 yards and three touchdowns.
Palmer’s signing helps the Seahawks at one of their few positions of need. Seattle is lacking experience at tight end following an offseason Achilles injury that put Anthony McCoy on injured reserve. While the Seahawks now have seven tight ends on their roster with Zach Miller entrenched as the starter, Seattle has no other experienced options at the position. Rookie Luke Willson will likely make the team, and Sean McGrath has also been impressive in offseason workouts, but with two appearances last season, McGrath was, prior to Palmer’s signing, the only tight end on Seattle’s roster other than Miller who had appeared in a regular season game.
Polk signed with Seattle as an undrafted free agent out of Colorado following April’s draft.
