First, though, city officials say they need a plan.
Former city manager John Caulfield resigned July 2 to take a post with the city of Lakewood.
The Mountlake Terrace City Council is scheduled to discuss the opening on Aug. 19, Assistant City Manager Scott Hugill said last week. They'll make a plan for the recruiting process. They haven't decided yet whether to appoint an interim city manager, he said.
The job pays about $140,000 a year, depending on qualifications and experience, Hugill said.
Caulfield had been city manager since 2006.
