Talking points

It's not the economy, stupid: President Barack Obama on Wednesday delivered the first of several speeches that he hopes will get people talking about the economy this summer.

Doesn't seem likely, since Obama neglected to say anything about George Zimmerman, Anthony Weiner or the newly named Prince George.

Wonk talk: Statistician/blogger Nate Silver, who correctly forecast the 2012 presidential race in all 50 states, is jumping to ESPN from The New York Times. In his new role, Silver will expand his data-driven focus to sports and more.

One of Silver's first projects will be calculating how long it'll take another recent ESPN hire, Keith Olbermann, to pick a fight with his bosses and quit in a huff.

Grapes of sorrow: Hail, rain and wind storms caused heavy damage in France's Burgundy wine region, ripping leaves from vines and bursting grapes. As much as 90 percent of the grapes are ruined in some growing areas.

And so the French now face the gloomy prospect of being forced to drink wine from Spain, or quelle horreur, the United States.
