MOUNTLAKE TERRACE -- A man wanted for hit-and-run and police pursuit earlier this month in Mountlake Terrace was arrested Wednesday in Chehalis.
The man, 22, was caught by a police dog while running from officers, according to The Chronicle newspaper in Centralia.
The man's ex-girlfriend had moved to Mountlake Terrace after their relationship ended due to alleged domestic violence, Mountlake Terrace police Cmdr. Doug Hansen said Thursday.
On July 13, the man showed up at the woman's apartment complex along Lakeview Drive. Her neighbors called police to report the man apparently loitering about 3:40 p.m., Hansen said. The man was gone when officers arrived.
About an hour later, the man returned. His ex-girlfriend tried to leave in her car with her 6-year-old daughter inside. The man tried to block her in with his car.
The woman began screaming, and the cars collided, Hansen said.
The woman drove off, and the man followed, driving the wrong way down the street. He reportedly rammed the woman's car, and she spun out.
No serious injuries were reported.
About 7:50 p.m. the same day, the man showed back up at the apartment complex. An Edmonds officer saw him, and Edmonds and Mountlake Terrace police tried to pull the man over.
He took off, running a red light, Hansen said. There was a short chase, but officers terminated the pursuit for safety reasons.
Mountlake Terrace police put out a regional bulletin asking for help finding the man. His vehicle later was found abandoned in Shoreline.
After his arrest in Chehalis, he was booked into the Snohomish County Jail. He was being held Thursday for investigation of eluding police, hit-and-run, reckless endangerment and reckless driving.
