MUKILTEO -- An early morning fire Sunday caused extensive damage to a boat and a garage in the 1600 block of W. Horizon Drive in Mukilteo, officials said.
The fire was reported around 4:45 a.m.
Mukilteo firefighters were joined by units from the Lynnwood Fire Department and Snohomish County Fire District 1. More than 20 firefighters responded to the call.
Several neighbors and boaters on the water reported the fire. Neighbors woke the people sleeping inside and they were able to get out safely, Mukilteo assistant fire chief Brian McMahan said.
The fire started in the boat and spread to the exterior garage wall. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, McMahan said.
The estimated loss is $20,000 for the structure, boat and contents.
There were no injuries.
"The quick response and knockdown of the fire prevented further damage to the garage and saved the house from catching fire," McMahan said.
