Hiker dies in fall near Granite Falls

VERLOT -- A hiker died Monday after he fell about 12 feet onto rocks outside of Granite Falls.
The hiker was with family on a trail off the Mountain Loop Highway when he fell, Snohomish County sheriff's spokeswoman Shari Ireton said. The incident was reported about 3 p.m.
Search-and-rescue crews were trying to hike to the man's location and the sheriff's rescue helicopter also was called out to assist, Ireton said. It was later confirmed that the man had died at the scene.
His name and hometown were not released Monday.
