50 years ago (1963)
D.E. Greiert, of 7606 Easy St., recently completed the comprehensive insurance course offered at the National Sales Training School in San Francisco. Greiert, a local representative for the Mutual of Omaha and United of Omaha, was chosen for the training through a selection interview analysis.
The newly remodeled B.F. Goodrich Co. store at 2601 Colby Ave. was holding its grand opening this week. Manager Don Reid said it was now the most modern Goodrich store on the West Coast.
25 years ago (1988)
The Rev. James C. Wiersum was the new pastor of First Everett Christian Reformed Church. He was from Wisconsin and was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Grand Rapids Baptist College and Calvin Theological Seminary.
Steve Nixon threw a complete game two-hitter as Marysville beat Mason County in the Senior Little League state championships at Northshore Little League Park. Other boys who contributed to the victory were Darrell Kluin, Jason Nyblod, Trevor Cobb and Mike Miller. The team would advance to the divisional tournament in Anchorage, Alaska.
