Bellingham-area school bus cams could give tickets
The camera would turn on when the stop sign swings out. A six-week test last spring on six buses found 65 drivers passing school buses that had lights flashing and stop sings out.
Meridian School District Superintendent Tom Churchill says the district is serious about preventing children from being struck.
The Bellingham Herald reports the equipment for the test was provided by an Arizona company that also operates red-light cameras.
A ticket would carry a $394 fine.
The Meridian School Board will discuss options at its Aug. 14 meeting.
