Mudslides up to 25 feet deep cover the North Cascades Highway east of Newhalem.

A 10-mile stretch of the North Cascades Highway east of Newhalem will be closed indefinitely because of multiple rock and mud slides, the state Department of Transportation announced Sunday.
Crews are on scene but estimate they'll need more resources to clear the roadway. The highway was shut down because of the numerous slides and incoming storms.
The roadway is closed at the winter closure gate at milepost 147 to Rainy Pass at the Chelan County line.
The Highway 20 is the northernmost route across the Cascade Mountain Range.
